National Retail Federation Matt Shay and several retail CEOs met with President Donald Trump Wednesday to discuss tax reform and other issues critical to the industry, the association announced.
Shay and members of NRF's executive committee attended a meeting with Trump at the White House to discuss tax reform, regulatory reform, the economy and other issues. The administration issued no statement about the event, and neither party said whether tariffs were on the agenda. NRF has been critical of Trump's decision to impose tariffs on many foreign goods, particularly from China.
"We appreciate this opportunity to tell the president how the important work he has done on tax reform and deregulation is benefitting the retail industry, our workers and American consumers," Shay said in a statement. "Today's meeting shows that President Trump appreciates and understands the important role retail plays in the nation's economy and wants to help our businesses continue to grow."
Executive committee members include the CEOs of BJ's Wholesale Club, QVC, Macy's and Neiman Marcus Group.
